MoveOn Asheville: Corporate spending in NC Senate election is out of control
About 40 concerned citizens gathered at Pritchard Park in downtown Asheville this afternoon, Oct. 12, to demonstrate against what they see as the negative impact of corporate and right-wing front groups on elections in North Carolina. The event was organized by the local chapter of the progressive MoveOn.Org Political Action Committee and featured speeches by Asheville City Councilman Cecil Bothwell, Local Edge Radio hostess Lesley Groetsch and MoveOn N.C. Cranky Hanke’s Weekly Reeler Oct. 13-19: Art and the very antithesis of art
This is one of those tricky weeks where movie titles cropped up—out of nowhere or from Freestyle Releasing, which amounts to about the same thing—after the upcomers were done. As a result, in addition to the three movies I was expecting to open this week—Never Let Me Go, RED and Jackass 3-D—we also have N-Secure and I Want Your Money. This does not appear to be a blessing.

The contract between the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority and L&H Signs of Reading, Pa. After the signs began peeling, this became the issue of a legal battle between the two, and the TDA has now contracted another company to repair the signs.
