Sheriff Van Duncan, who has recently faced controversy about the flag-desecration arrests and his refusal to reveal the results of his office’s investigation, will be on the spot for a whole hour on Wednesday, Aug. 22. On “Take a Stand! with Matt Mittan,” Duncan will face questions from the local radio host as well as listeners.

After a summer of feasting on spiders, insects and other morsels from the mountains, the chestnut-sided warbler will return to the tropics. Unfortunately, a population decline has caused conservation groups to turn a watchful eye on this colorful little bird.

A total of 15 people will be vying for three Asheville City Council seats that will be in play this November in a nonpartisan contest.

Storm-water and erosion control, annexation and the condition of the city’s bridges are some of the key items on Council’s agenda for the meeting tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 21).
